Exceptional opera events for connoisseurs

MEET THE OPERA WORLD!

Divas & Scholars, a not for profit organisation, offers courses, Opera Study Days, evening seminars & performances, Master Classes, opera parties and intimate lecture-recitals since 2011. Our first Opera Studies series in association with the National Opera Studio began in September 2015. The key events were ten evening seminars with live performances followed by dinners with illustrious speakers from the opera world at the Lansdowne Club. We presented young singers training with the National Opera Studio and teamed them with established opera luminaries at each event.  Our next offering will be a series of three events at The Ivy.  This is a pre-festival series highlighting The Grange Festival. Artistic Director Michael Chance CBE will lead the discussions with illustrative recitals by members of the cast of the operas in their 2017 season.

Divas & Scholars offer the opportunity to meet and discuss opera with stars over dinner.  These have included the internationally famous soprano and chatelaine of Glyndebourne, Danielle de Niese and also conductor Edward Gardner OBE.  We introduce you to emerging opera singers who demonstrate their extraordinary vocal technique close up.

Whether you are new to the art form or are already an aficionado, there are fascinating insights and performances to enjoy. Experts from the opera houses, conservatoires and broadcasting inform and entertain you.  You  learn about the music, the composers, the librettists and performance history as well as meet other connoisseurs. You improve your listening skills and learn to analyse and talk about operatic performance in a more informed way.  Our aim is to make attending opera a more enlightened pleasure.

We are proud to introduce and promote the opera stars of the future as well as provide a new platform and performance opportunities for young talent.   Lucy Woodruff BA (Hons), MA, Director
