“Divas & Scholars is an excellent project giving paid performance opportunities to many talented young singers."
Jason Orange, Take That
Divas & Scholars, a not for profit organisation, has offered Opera Study Days, Master Classes, opera parties and intimate lecture-recitals since 2011. Our first Opera Studies series in association with the National Opera Studio began in September 2015. The key events were ten evening seminars with live performances followed by dinners with illustrious speakers from the opera world at the Lansdowne Club. It has been possible to either enrol for the full series or just attend the events that interest you most.
We offer the opportunity to meet and discuss opera with stars over dinner including the internationally famous soprano and chatelaine of Glyndebourne, Danielle de Niese and also conductor Edward Gardner OBE. Our partners the National Opera Studio train some of the best emerging opera singers. We introduce you to emerging opera singers who demonstrate their extraordinary vocal technique close up.
Whether you are new to the art form or are already an aficionado, there are fascinating insights and performances to enjoy. Experts from the opera houses, conservatoires and broadcasting inform and entertain you. You learn about the music, the composers, the librettists and performance history as well as meet other connoisseurs. You improve your listening skills and learn to analyse and talk about operatic performance in a more informed way. Our aim is to make attending opera a more enlightened pleasure.
We are proud to introduce and promote the opera stars of the future as well as provide a new platform and performance opportunities for young talent. Lucy Woodruff BA (Hons), MA, Director
